Located just one degree north of the equator, Singapore has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 25  to 34 degrees Celsius (77  to 93 degrees Fahrenheit) all year long.  Although most days are sunny, Singapore does experience the occasional downpour, so have an umbrella handy!

Dress code

The dress code for the congress is business casual. 


While English is the main language used for business and education throughout the city-state, Singapore actually has four official languages – Malay, Mandarin, Tamil and English – with Malay being Singapore’s national language.


The local currency is the Singapore dollar (S$). Money changing services are readily available at Singapore Changi Airport, and at many shopping centres and hotels in the city. You may also choose to withdraw money using major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) from any automated teller machines (ATMs), which can be easily found throughout the city.


The international dialing code is +(65). With an international roaming service, you can dial local  8-digit phone numbers without adding +(65).

Goods & service tax

Goods & Services Tax (GST) in Singapore is 7%. Spend at least S$100 a day from selected retailers to qualify for refunds. Enjoy tax-free shopping at retailers that offer the Tax Refund service. At other retailers, ask for GST Refund Forms and retain your receipts to get your refund processed at the airport right before you fly out of Singapore. Tax refunds do not apply if you are leaving by land or sea.

Travelling to Singapore

Kindly note that all fully vaccinated travellers and children aged 12 and below entering Singapore from 1st July 2022, 2359h (SGT) will be able to enter Singapore quarantine-free via any flight and refer to the General Travel Category Requirements for Fully Vaccinated Travellers and Non-Fully Vaccinated Children.

Airport Shuttle

The airport shuttle bus provides drop-offs to most downtown hotels including Marina Bay Sands.  The bus departs every 15 minutes during peak hours and up to 30 minutes during non-peak hours.  Tickets cost S$9 for adults and S$6 for children under 12 years of age.  The journey to the city centre takes approximately 25 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Train

The journey from Changi Airport to Marina Bay Sands takes about 1 hour on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Train and costs around S$2.

Walk to Changi Airport Station (CG2) from the Arrival Halls at Singapore Changi Airport. From there, take the MRT Train two stops to Tanah Merah Station (EW4). For arrivals at Terminal 4, passengers will need to take a complimentary internal shuttle to Terminal 2 to access the MRT train station.

At Tanah Merah Station, transfer to the East-West Line (Green Line) in the direction of Tuas Link Station. Alight after eight MRT stops, at Bugis Station (EW12/DT14) to transfer.

At Bugis Station, transfer to the Downtown Line (Blue Line) in the direction of Chinatown Station. Alight after two MRT stops, at Bayfront Station (DT16).

Marina Bay Sands is connected to Bayfront Station.

The last train leaving Changi Airport is at 11:18pm. All trains and selected gantries at stations are luggage-friendly.

You can purchase a single-ride MRT ticket from machines at any train station. You can also consider purchasing a stored-value EZ-Link card, which is available at train stations or any Changi Recommends store at the airport.

A taxi ride from Changi Airport to Marina Bay Sands takes about 30 minutes and costs between S$20 and S$40 depending on the time of day, type of taxi and route taken. Fares are metered and different surcharges apply (e.g. Airport surcharge for all trips leaving from Changi Airport; Peak hour surcharge; Midnight surcharge, etc.). Most taxi companies accept major credit cards, but we recommend asking the attendant and/or taxi driver before starting the journey.

Taxis are available day and night, and taxi stands are easy to find at the Arrival Halls of each terminal.
